Today was the first day of school and our class theme is "Camp Learn-A-Lot." To kick off the year, we made solar s'mores using a pizza box, black paper, and aluminum foil. We talked about how black objects absorb the sun's heat and white object reflect it. We also talked about how the aluminum foil would reflect the sun rays and help the S'more ingredients warm up faster.
Next we set up our S'more ovens and took them outside to experiment.
We
also set pieces of black and white paper in the sun along with our S'more
ovens, then went inside for about 30 minutes.
When we came back out, the S'mores were oooey-gooey! We also felt the papers and all agreed that
the black piece was much warmer than the white piece. Finally.....snack time!
